How do I get a KnoQ Code?

KnoQ Codes are physical QR codes that you can purchase or receive. Each code has a unique URL. When you scan it for the first time, you'll be guided through a quick registration process to link it to your email.

How do I register as an Owner?

Scan your KnoQ Code or visit its URL. You'll be asked to enter your email and verify it with a one-time password (OTP). Then select your use case (Vehicle, Home/Office, Pet, Luggage, or Others) and fill in any optional details. Only your email is required — everything else is optional.

Do I need to download an app?

Visitors don't need any app — they just scan the QR code and use the web interface. Owners should download the KnoQ Android app to receive notifications, manage calls, and view their dashboard. The app is available on the Google Play Store.

How do I log in to the Android app?

How does a visitor contact me?

When someone scans your KnoQ Code, they see a session page with three options: Call, Send a Message, or Send a File. Choosing any option sends you a notification on the Android app.

Can I use call, chat, and file sharing at the same time?

Yes. Once a session is established, both the visitor and owner can use any combination of call, chat, and file sharing simultaneously. You can start a call from the chat screen and continue chatting while on the call.

The visitor always initiates the first contact. Once communication is established in any mode, either party can start additional modes within the same session.

How do calls work?

Visitors can start a video call. As the owner, you can choose to answer with video or audio only. Calls use WebRTC for direct peer-to-peer connections with high quality audio and video.

A session ends when: the visitor closes their browser or navigates away, the visitor is idle for 5 minutes, or the owner taps "End Session." The owner also has a dedicated button to end all communication modes instantly.

For the Vehicle use case, you can designate an Emergency Contact (EC) during registration by providing their email address. If a visitor encounters an emergency (like a vehicle accident), they can contact your EC directly through the session page.

How does the Emergency Contact log in?

Emergency Contacts log in to the KnoQ Android app using their email and OTP — no separate registration needed. They get the same full app experience as owners, with their own chat history and call logs scoped to emergency communications.

During registration, you can set a 4-digit PIN to protect your emergency details (personal info, medical information). Visitors on the emergency page need this PIN to view your details — or they can attempt to call the EC 3 times, after which the details auto-unlock.

How does the 3-attempt auto-unlock work?

If a visitor tries to call the Emergency Contact at least 3 times and the calls don't go through or aren't answered, the emergency details automatically unlock. This ensures critical information is accessible in genuine emergencies.

Can one person be both an Owner and an Emergency Contact?

Yes. If someone adds your email as their Emergency Contact, you'll see both roles in the app. You can switch between Owner and EC roles — each has its own separate chat history, call logs, and dashboard content.

Are my messages encrypted?

Yes. All chat messages and file transfers use end-to-end encryption (E2EE) with ECDH P-256 key exchange and AES-256-GCM encryption. Messages are encrypted on your device and can only be decrypted by the recipient. KnoQ cannot read your messages.

Are calls encrypted?

Yes. Video and audio calls use WebRTC with SRTP encryption, establishing direct peer-to-peer connections. Call content never passes through KnoQ servers in an unencrypted form.

What data does KnoQ store?

We store your account information (email, optional profile details), QR code associations, and session metadata (call timestamps, durations). We do NOT store message content, call audio/video, file content, location data, or browsing history.

Can KnoQ read my messages if asked by law enforcement?

No. Due to end-to-end encryption, we technically cannot access message content. Encryption keys exist only on the communicating devices and are never stored on our servers.

How do I delete my account and data?

You can delete your account from the app settings. This permanently removes all your personal data from our systems and frees your KnoQ Code for reassignment. Session metadata is automatically purged after 90 days.

How do I edit my profile details?

Open the KnoQ Android app and go to the Home tab. All your registration details are displayed on the dashboard and can be edited at any time — except your email address, which is read-only since it's tied to your authentication.

What are Quiet Hours?

Quiet Hours let you set a time window during which notifications are silenced. Visitors who try to contact you during quiet hours will receive an auto-response message that you can customize. You can configure this in the Controls tab.

Can I disable calls, messages, or file sharing?

Yes. In the Controls tab, you can toggle calls, messages, and file sharing on or off individually. When a mode is disabled, visitors won't be able to use that communication method, and you won't receive notifications for it.

How do I switch between Owner and Emergency Contact roles?

If you have both roles, use the role switcher in the app's top bar. Switching roles updates your Home tab content, chat history, and call logs to show data relevant to the selected role. Your role preference is saved and restored when you reopen the app.

I'm not receiving notifications

Make sure notifications are enabled for the KnoQ app in your device settings. Check that you haven't enabled Quiet Hours in the Controls tab. On some devices (Samsung, Xiaomi, Oppo), you may need to disable battery optimization for KnoQ in your device settings.

Call quality is poor

Call quality depends on both parties' internet connection. For best results, use a stable Wi-Fi connection. KnoQ automatically adapts video quality based on network conditions — it may lower resolution temporarily during poor connectivity and upgrade when conditions improve.

My QR code isn't being recognized

Make sure the QR code is clearly visible and not damaged. Try scanning in good lighting. If the code still doesn't work, the URL should be in the format https://knoq.qrcomtech.com/[code] — you can also type this URL directly into a browser.

The visitor can't connect to me

Check that your device has an active internet connection and the KnoQ app is running (it can be in the background). Ensure you haven't disabled all communication modes in the Controls tab. If the issue persists, try restarting the app.

I forgot my emergency PIN

You can view and change your 4-digit PIN from the Home tab in the Android app. The PIN is displayed with a show/hide toggle for security.
