Terms of Service

1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using KnoQ ("the Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, do not use the Service. KnoQ is a privacy-first communication platform that connects visitors and owners through QR codes without requiring the exchange of personal phone numbers.

2. Description of Service

KnoQ enables secure, real-time communication between a QR code owner and any visitor who scans that code. The Service includes:

• QR code (KnoQ Code) generation, registration, and management
• End-to-end encrypted chat messaging and file sharing
• WebRTC-based video and audio calling
• Emergency contact designation and communication
• Android mobile application (KnoQ-Android) for owners
• Web application (KnoQ-Web) for visitors and registration

Visitors are temporary, session-based participants. Owners are permanent, registered users. All first contact is initiated by the visitor.

3. User Accounts and Registration

To become a KnoQ Owner, you must register using a valid email address and verify it via one-time password (OTP). Only your email is mandatory; all other profile fields are optional. You are responsible for:

• Providing accurate registration information
• Maintaining the security of your account credentials
• All activity that occurs under your account
• Notifying us promptly of any unauthorized access

Emergency Contacts log in using their email and OTP — no separate registration is required. One person may hold both Owner and Emergency Contact roles.

4. Session Rules

Communication sessions are governed by the following rules:

• A visitor initiates every session by scanning a KnoQ Code
• Once communication is established, both parties may use any mode (call, chat, file sharing) simultaneously
• Sessions end when the visitor closes the browser, navigates away, or is idle for 5 minutes, or when the owner taps "End Session"
• The owner can end all communication modes instantly at any time

5. Acceptable Use

You agree not to use KnoQ for any unlawful purpose or in any way that could damage, disable, or impair the Service. Prohibited activities include:

• Harassment, abuse, threats, or intimidation
• Impersonation of any person or entity
• Transmission of malware, viruses, or harmful code
• Unauthorized access to other users' accounts or data
• Spamming, phishing, or unsolicited bulk communications
• Attempting to circumvent encryption or security measures
• Using the Service to violate any applicable law or regulation

6. End-to-End Encryption

KnoQ uses end-to-end encryption (E2EE) for chat messages and file transfers. Messages are encrypted on the sender's device and can only be decrypted by the intended recipient. KnoQ cannot read, access, or recover the content of encrypted messages. This means:

• We cannot provide message content in response to legal requests
• If you lose access to your device, encrypted message history cannot be recovered by KnoQ
• Encryption keys are generated per session and are not stored on our servers

7. Privacy and Data Protection

Your use of KnoQ is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which describes how we collect, use, and protect your information.

8. Intellectual Property

All content, features, and functionality of KnoQ — including text, graphics, logos, icons, and software — are owned by QrComTech and protected by copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws. You may not copy, modify, distribute, sell, or lease any part of the Service without express written permission.

9. Disclaimer of Warranties

KnoQ is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, either express or implied. We do not guarantee that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of harmful components. Call quality depends on network conditions and device capabilities beyond our control.

10. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, KnoQ shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising out of or related to your use of the Service, including but not limited to loss of data, missed communications, or inability to reach emergency contacts.

11. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless KnoQ and its affiliates from any claims, damages, losses, liabilities, and expenses arising out of your use of the Service or violation of these Terms.

12. Account Termination

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your account if you violate these Terms or engage in fraudulent, abusive, or illegal activities. You may delete your account at any time, which will free your associated KnoQ Code for reassignment and remove your personal data in accordance with our Privacy Policy.

13. Changes to Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date. Your continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.

14. Governing Law

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with applicable laws, without regard to conflict of law principles.
